Before seeing "Before Midnight", make sure you catch the first movie of Richard Linklater's "trilogy" , "Before Sunrise".
The first movie, introduces us to Jesse & Celine, on their first encounter. The story seems quite simple: Boy meets girl on the train, boy asks girl to get off the train with him in an unknown city, boy & girl, talk, walk, fall in love.
Well, all that with a loooot of talking in between.
Jokes aside, the movie captures the essence of romance, shows us that you can get to know someone in just 24 hours and yes, fall in love. Of course this might have to do with the fact that the heroes are in their 20s, romantic, rebels, but the movie manages to move past that and treat this relationship with honesty. We get so into it that we almost forget that they just met.
Knowing that they will have a common future (they do get another two movies:-) ) makes it even more interesting to see how they will turn up. Will they manage to save this flame and turn it into something more? Or will they become a vague memory in each other's youth?
Ever since I first set foot on a cinema theatre, I knew that something magical was happening there....
